Welcome to the month of June
Passing on a Godly legacy
These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deut 6.6-7
Father’s Day is celebrated in June worldwide to recognize the contribution that fathers and father figures make to the lives of their children. Whilst Mother’s Day is greeted with much anticipation, Father’s Day seem to lack the same appeal. Here at NTA Tooting we value appreciate our fathers, pass and present, for their indispensable contribution to their family, church and society and wish all a happy fathers!
The Bible provides fathers and men with many wise instructions to help them fulfill their roles and responsibilities. The proverbs tells us that, “a good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children”. Whilst this is a prudent piece of advice, the fact is that not all fathers are in a position to leave money, property or investments for their children. However, everyone leaves a legacy whether good or bad. A Godly legacy will ensure that you are remembered for the right reasons long after you are gone. Seeing that all material things eventually fades, the question is, what enduring legacy are we passing on to our children?
The Psalmist gives us a clue. The grass withers and the flowers fade but the Word of the Lord endures forever. (Isaiah 40.8). Pass it on!
