Study

1st -21st August 2018

Our prayer and fasting programme this year has been written up to include and transcend the duration of the August conference. We hope but also know that the Lord will use this time to establish a legacy of excellence and holiness beyond anything we have experienced before. This session will comprise of separate focuses around the theme of the spirit of excellence.

Please take out of the precious resource of time to pray, plan, position and discuss these prayer pulses and directions along with any others you may be inspired to use. We appreciate that this is a relatively long fast but know that God will honour your faithfulness. Some days in the fast may well be better than others but the ultimately focus first on consistency before intensity and stillness of heart before endurance of effort.

Blessed are those that hunger after righteousness: for they shall be filled.!

NTA Vision Prayer

Father, in the name of Jesus, we thank you for New Testament Assembly. You have called us to be labourers together and surrounding areas and across the earth. As we lift our voices in one accord, recognizing that you are God we call into being those things that be not as though they were.

We thank you that we all speak the same thing: there is no division among us, and we are of the same mind. Grant unto us a boldness to proclaim your word which you will confirm with signs following. We thank you that we have workers in abundance and all manner of creative people for every kind of work. Each department operates in excellence on ministry. We have in our church the ministry gifts for the edifying this body until we all come into the unity of faith, and the knowledge of the son of God, unto mature person.

None of our people will be children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every doctrine. We speak the truth in love

We are a flourishing, worship and witnessing community of believers increasing in numbers. We have every need met. Therefore, we meet the needs of people who come- spirit soul and body. Our church is prospering financially, and we have more than enough to meet every situation. We have everything that we need to carry out your great commission and reach area for Jesus. We are a people of love as love is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. We thank you that the word of God is dwelling richly in all of us and Jesus is Lord!

We are supernatural church composed of supernatural people doing supernatural things, for we are labourers together with God. Almighty God we thank you for your presence among us. We lift our hearts and hands in praise to your Holy name.

How to prepare for Fasting

It is recommended that you begin to prepare your body for fasting at least a week before commencing your fast. You should prepare by starting to eat smaller meals which will begin to shrink your stomach so that the initial withdrawal from eating will not signal a dramatic shock to your digestive system.

You should also refrain from drinking coffee and other caffeine and sugar intensive drinks which will trigger withdrawal symptoms. It is recommended that you increase your water intake; this will help to minimise symptoms such as headaches.

Although many times when we are going about our normal everyday business we often miss meals without noticing it, when we decide to fast we can often experience various symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, coldness and other symptoms. Do not be deterred from your goal of fasting to draw closer to God. Fasting is a spiritual discipline and it takes effort to achieve results.

When you break your fast each day, try not to eat large portions and do avoid sugar and caffeine. Do spend time in worship, prayer and reading your Bible. Allow God to reveal Himself to you and to pray through you as you yield your spirit to His Spirit.

This is a time to starve your flesh and feed your spirit. ‘For the sinful nature desires, what is contrary to the Spirit and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want’. (Gal 5:17) You should not only abstain from food but also from everything that satisfies the desires of the flesh, including secular TV, computer games etc. For married couples this includes abstaining from sexual intercourse by mutual consent until the period of your fasting is over. (See 1 Cor. 7:3-5)

If you have a medical condition that would preclude from long periods of fasting, please do consult your doctor before fasting. The fasting times given are preferable, but optional. Please use wisdom in attempting this fast

The Daniel Fast

The concept of a Daniel fast comes from Daniel 1:8-14. The background of the Daniel fast is that Daniel and his three friends had been deported to Babylon when Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians conquered Judah (2 Kings 24:13-14). Daniel and his three friends were put into the Babylonian court servant “training program.” Part of the program was learning Babylonian customs, beliefs, laws, and practices.

The eating habits of the Babylonians were not in complete agreement with the Mosaic Law. As a result, Daniel asked if he and his three friends could be excused from eating the meat (which was likely sacrificed to Babylonian false gods and idols).

So, a Daniel fast is eating only fruits and vegetables for a certain amount of time and abstaining from meat products.

DAY 1: The excellent power of true repentance: Repentance is not just about feeling sorry for what you have or have not done. It is a total change of mindset and a total change of direction. It is a total Uturn from travelling in the opposite direction from God, to travelling towards God, then to travelling with God. Come before His presence in true and sincere repentance on behalf of yourself, family, Church, community and nation.

{Hosea 6:1-3; Joel 2}

DAY 2: Allow your spirit to meditate and contemplate the excellency of the finished work of the cross, and the complete redemptive ministry of the blood of Jesus Christ. The same blood that cleanses you, also redeems you. The same blood that nullifies the curse also attracts the blessing towards you. Pleading the blood should not be a religious exercise; it is invoking all the covenant rights, blessings, speakings and authority that is in Christ Jesus over your life.

Pray and release the excellent workings of the blood of Jesus over every area of your life, family, Church, community and nation.

{Hebrews 9:12; Hebrews 12:11-24; Galatians 3:13-14}

DAY 3: Through repentance we are disconnected from the path of condemnation and connected to the power of eternal redemption in the blood of the lamb. The blood is the medium of God’s mercy, flowing into your life, and washing you with a cleansing flow. Pray that this same mercy that is available in the blood of Jesus, will manifest in your life. That the excellence of divine mercy will flow in your heart like a river. That you will not only be a beneficiary of divine mercy, but a vessel of God’s mercy to a dying world.

{Psalm 40:11; Psalm 51; Colossians 3:12}

DAY 4: The excellency of God’s salvation is in His amazing grace: unmerited, undeserved, and unwarranted. Yet it is always available and always accessible. Pray for this same grace to locate husbands, wives, sons, daughter, fathers, mothers, and all your family members who don’t know Christ. Release the saving grace of God into your local schools, colleges, gangs, detention centres, rehab centres etc.

{Ephesians 2:8-9; Genesis 6:5-8; Luke 2:40}

DAY 5: Grace does not only save, it also empowers. Th same grace that saves you is also able to empower you. Pray fervently that the grace of God will enable you to deny ungodliness and worldly passion. Pray that you will be empowered by grace to live a self-controlled, upright and godly life.

{Titus 2:11-12; Romans 5:17; Romans 6:14}

DAY 6: The in-working of divine grace is supposed to produce and out-working of supernatural power. Grace is meant to be the fulness of God’s power embedded and manifesting in your life. Pray that great grace will be upon your life to produce supernatural proofs of the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

{Acts 4:33; Acts 14:3}

DAY 7: Acknowledge the eternal excellency and glory of our Father in all creation, in His people, in ourselves and all His handiwork. Pause, ponder, wonder and look around in awe of all glory you can behold and that which He has promised when He returns. Find and discover hymns and songs specifically written to declare the work of His creation. He is the basis and blueprint for the divine pattern of excellence we aspire to. What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us - A W Tozer.

{Rev. 21:9-26; Psalm 139; Psalm 104; Psalm 65; Gen.1:11}

DAY 8: A true worshipper easily forgives. Pray fervently for new opportunities to excel in forgiveness where we may not have not shown good stewardship in the past. For some it may be understanding why a past endeavour, business or a relationship did not go as planned in spite of the best of intentions. As you pray and encourage others, let’s be reminded that God is not just the God of the second chance but also the God of the second crown to as many that can receive it. Ask the Lord for a head start in whatever has been committed to your trust in all areas of your life. For some that might start with the words “bring change to this place or land and am willing to let the change start with me".

{1 Cor. 3:8-25; 15:8-11; 16:9; Romans 9:16-18; 1 Chronicles 5:1-2}

DAY 9: The excellent two: praise & prayer. {Philippians 4:8} “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

We pray for one another, for our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Let us pray that they may run this journey with all faith, Honesty and Truth. That they may endure all the hardships and that we may profess our love for each other in Prayer and Actions.

DAY 10: Pray for spiritual discernment, to be obedient to the voice of the holy spirit as He teaches and instructs us. Pray that the Lord will open your ears to hear and your eyes to see. Ask the Lord to activate your spiritual senses, to be alert, sensitive, and accurate in the spirit.

{Psalm 32:8; Eph. 1:17-23; Psalm18:28; Prov.20:27}

DAY 11: Pray for a refocused vision and the required ability to excel beyond the natural realm and human competence. Ask the Lord earnestly for the grace to be faithful as we fuse His infinite gifts, talents and Spirit with the finite resources of time, opportunity and money.

“If our dreams are bigger than our visions we are in trouble” -Jesse Duplantis

{2 Cor.8:10-15; Acts6:2-4; Titus 3:14; Matt.5:41; Joshua13:1-3; Phil.3:10-15}

DAY 12: Pray for a revealing and release of a creative anointing within us as a church and a body. Ask that The Lord would count us worthy to serve his purposes in our generation in areas such as entrepreneurship, science, healthcare, ethics and education. May He grant us the wisdom to initiate, invent and proffer game-changing solutions to the pressing issues of our times. We currently find that parts of the church are under persecution and attack for the WRONG reasons such as low levels of transparency, allegations of material and child abuse. While the trust people have in church and religion has dropped to an all-time low, ironically, the expectation they have of a saviour in any form has never been higher. We however know that our merciful father is able to redeem that which is lost so the world would again look to Zion for answers for there is no other name by which any man can be saved!
“Go into the world and preach the gospel and if necessary, use words” – (Francis of Assisi)

{Chron.26:1-16; Rom. 8:19; Zech. 8:20-24; Deut.15:6; Num.14:24; Daniel 1:20; Luke 16:8; Isaiah 11:1-2; Isaiah 60:15-21}

DAY 13: Let us pray against the spirit of fear; that we will be bold as we strive to reach our full potential in Christ. Come against anything that the enemy is using to spread fear, violence and bloodshed on our streets.

{2Tim.1:7; Psalm91:5-7}

5 Isaiah 41 V 10 “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

DAY 14: Excellence comes at a cost and a premium. Pray for courage and clarity regarding God-pleasing sacrifices you are called to make for your family, church, community and workplace. The cost of excellence is steep but He has promised to purchase it as we pursue it in His truth and love. “A cynic knows the cost of everything and knows the value of nothing.”

{Mk.10:25-30; 1Chron.22:1-5; Lk.9:59-62; Acts 20:22-27}

DAY 15: There is always a need for a grace to remain steadfast when there is no clear manifestation of promise and reward. Take some time to Intercede in love for those who have borne the heat of the day and laboured relentlessly without recognition; persecuted Christians worldwide, and those on missions and evangelism.

{1Sam.15:22-24; Gal.4:18; Phil.2:13; Gal.6:9; Ezek.12:22-23; Hab.3:17- 19;Ezek.45:5;Gen.47:9;Lk.5:1-11; 2 Cor 12:15- 16}

DAY 16: Daniel 6:3 “Then this Daniel became distinguished above all the other presidents and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.” Pray for those in Authority, the leaders of this nation The United Kingdom. In Time of turbulence with Brexit, God is needed more than ever in the halls of Government. Pray for grace and humility for our spiritual leaders, integrity in political leadership and unity in community leadership.

{1Tim.2:1-6; Romans13:1-8}

DAY 17: Pray for the Young People in our Churches in the NTA. We pray that they will be a beacon of light amongst their peers, that they will profess the name of Jesus in their communities and in their schools, colleges and workplaces. That they will be seen in the prisons, hospitals and shopping centres boldly engaging with their peers, and declaring the gospel with signs and wonders following. Stand in the gap for the children asking that our ending point would be there point of take-off. Ask the Lord for the wisdom to embed a culture of excellence in our youth. Confess their names and tell Him of your expectation for them before you tell them. May He keep them from destiny-altering images and harmful stereotypes / labels that cut promising children down in their prime.

{Titus 2:7; Psalm 144:12; Prov.19:18;1 Timothy 4:12; 1Peter 3:15}

DAY 18: We cannot be excellent on the spiritual front and be mediocre at the home and family front. Let us pray for quality leadership in homes and families. Pray that God will help us to create the right environment, right relationships and right examples for our children. Pray that God will give fathers the grace and wisdom to lead, to be stable and enduring and mothers the grace to nurture and to be strong. Pray specifically for those who are single parents, that the Lord will fill every vacuum, providing solace, strength, and supply every need.

{Psalm78:5; Prov.17:6; Prov.19:4; Prov.6:20; Prov.23:22}

DAY 19: Excellence is achieved by pulling down strongholds first of the mind, breaking barriers and limitations, overturning adverse decrees and removing obstacles. Let us come against every strongholds in the mind that stands against excellence. Pray that every limitation, barrier, obstacle and restrictions in the spirit will be demolished. Release the fire of God against every satanic altar, evil arrows, and machinations of darkness against your life, family, NTA, and 6 community.

{2Cor.10:3-6; Jer.1:10; Col.2:15}

DAY 20: The Apostle Paul warns that we must not be ignorant of the enemy’s devices. Pray and take authority over every attack of the enemy, every satanic plan against our leaders, our Churches, our loved ones, families, health and lives. Let every device of the crafty be disappointed; let every curse, spell, enchantment and divination by the kingdom of darkness be nullified and let every counter-attack and satanic reinforcement against us be overturned. We put on the whole armour of God and stand under the covenant of the blood of Jesus Christ.

{Job 5:12; Isaiah 54:14-17; Luke10:19}

DAY 21: Allow your heart to bask in all that the Lord has done, all his mercies, all of his grace, and his manifold blessings; and just lift up your hands and bless him. Let all that is within you bless his holy name. thank Him for a new season, a new day, and a new dimension of excellence in NTA and in every area of your life.
