The Serving Church
If there is ever a time when our world needs a church that is relevant, current and purposeful, it is now. Our mandate is clear: it is definitely one of service. We are salt and light. Without us, there is no light; without us, the world has no preservation or longevity. The grace that we carry is not merely for ourselves; it is for the restoration, healing and deliverance of the communities around us.
Just as the Apostle Peter exhorts us in 1 Peter 4:7-9, weneed to be alert and of a sober mind. We should love each other deeply because love covers a multitude of sins. And we should serve without grumbling or murmuring, without ‘secret debate’. Our service needs to be pure, without motive: ‘no strings attached’. Jesus was never afraid to reach out his hand to serve those around him. He was not thinking about what he might have looked like or what people may have been saying about him: he saw a need and he met it. He would reach the lost at any cost.
Ultimately true service starts in the heart, extends through the hands and ministers to the spirit. Let us serve one another just as Christ serves us.
