From the Pastors Desk
Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer,[a] saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”1 Samuel 7:12
As I pen this address on the first day of February, it is as if, like Samuel, I am setting my ‘Ebenezer’ stone of thanksgiving to God (1 Samuel 7:12). Not only is it the dawn of a new month, but it is also three months since my wife and I officially joined the NTA Tooting family and I became Assistant Pastor; to God be all the glory. This month we as a church family celebrate 57 years of ministry. And to each of these monumental milestones, I can declare, like Samuel: ‘Thus far the Lord has helped us.’
For the next six weeks we will be making love the priority. At a time where shops and TV screens will be saturated with messages of affection and intimacy to mark Valentine’s Day, we want our understanding and revelation of love to transcend what can be frivolously presented as a mere feeling or emotion. Our new teaching series- ‘What Matters Most: Love’ - will place real love, in all its forms, under the spotlight. We are reminded by the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 13 that above faith and hope, love is the greatest. And why? The love that Paul speaks about – the love of God for us and the love we are challenged to share with one another – is a love that is rooted in selfless sacrifice; a love that will go beyond the extra mile; a love that sees beyond failures, faults and flaws; a love that epitomises freedom; a love that knows no bounds. It is a love that everything else flows from.
Ultimately, love matters most because we matter most to God.
Be blessed.
